The Curriculum & Information Technology
The school provides a broad-based curriculum with the major academic disciplines at its heart. English lessons provide carefully planned activities to develop spelling, grammar and independent writing, speaking and listening skills and effective oral communication. Mathematics is taught to the Common Entrance and scholarship curricula from Year 6. Resources including computers, SMARTboard, PowerPoint presentations are used thoughout the school. In Science, we aim to develop the pupil’s natural curiosity. Teaching is through enquiry and investigative laboratory work. From Year 6, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are taught as separate subjects and follow the Common Entrance syllabus. French is taught in lively and imaginative ways throughout the school: the study of the country’s culture and history is followed alongside conversation and grammar. Latin is taught from Year 6. Geography, History, Religious Studies, PSHE, Music, Art, Design Technology and Physical Education complete a balanced timetable.
The recently upgraded, fully networked ICT facility enables children to develop skills so essential to modern life. Pupils have access to a secure net and to extensive educational software. ICT is introduced in the Nursery and is integrated throughout the curriculum.
