Maths is taught using a variety of approaches; hands-on where possible. Children learn best when using apparatus such as cubes and fraction towers which are fundamental to understanding concepts and will lay the framework when they progress to using symbols and other written methods, as well as mental strategies. The curriculum is delivered with the support of an interactive whiteboard and regular lessons are taken in the ICT suite so that children can learn and practise their skills in a challenging and fun way. Investigations and problem solving play a vital role, developing children’s thought processes. These are also often linked to cross-curricula projects.
Years 7 and 8 follow the Common Entrance Syllabus and more able pupils will study extra topics required for the Scholarship Examinations.
