Welcome to Sompting Abbotts
We are an independent school set in some of the most beautiful grounds in West Sussex, at the foot of the South Downs.
Sompting Abbotts espouses traditional values and incorporates carefully considered progressive and innovative methods. We are a family-run day school with a warm, supportive and special atmosphere of which we are proud. We work closely in partnership with our pupil’s families and we are very pleased to welcome them into the very varied life of the school. We are also pleased to offer ‘Wrap Around’ care. The Pre Prep is staffed from 8am to 4.30pm and the Prep is staffed from 7.30am to 6pm.
Our dedicated teaching staff inspire and provide the support needed to ensure that every individual reaches their own potential. Our pastoral care ensures that our pupils are cared for superbly. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) reported in 2013 that “the quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent” – ” the contribution for arrangements for pastoral care is excellent”
The PrePreparatory stage is completed at the end of Year 2. The provision for the children’s well-being in the Early Years Foundation Stage in our Pre Prep was described be the ISI in 2013 as “excellent”.
After completion of the final Pre Prep year, pupils progress through Year 3 to Year 8 in the Main School. Here “all children are successfully prepared for the next stage in their learning” – ISI 2013. They leave us with a secure and confident learning foundation for senior entry.
Our academic record is excellent. Our students excel at the Common Entrance examination to senior schools and many gain awards to their first school of choice.
The broad education at Sompting Abbotts provides pupils with coaching in sports, including full programmes of fixtures with other schools, along with the development of creativity through an arts curriculum covering visual and creative arts, music and drama; all part of confidence building and intellectual stimulation.
