Virtual Sports Day Success

The results are in! Thank you to everyone who took part in Sompting Abbotts' Virtual Sports Challenge – and especially to the parents who took the time to encourage your children to get involved and then to film them. Congratulations to you all – and particularly to those of you who have won a 'virtual rosette'. Commiserations to Mr Douch on his running tally against the Year 7s and 8s – more practice needed – but as we know, it's the taking part that counts!

Normally this summer term, we would have held our annual Sports Day, a highlight and much-looked forward to event on our school calendar.

As this couldn’t take place this year, we invited all our children instead to take part in a Virtual Sports Challenge.

Each year group was set an activity to practise and to complete in either their local park (or garden if they had space). This was right from our littlest pupils in the Pre-Prep, who were given fun and traditional races such as the Egg & Spoon, Dressing Up and Sack Race.

From our Prep-age pupils, we expected a little more agility and endurance. They were given challenges that included the standing long jump, sprint racing, skipping and ball agility.

You can see all the sports challenge details per year group here.

This was intended as a fun activity so there was no obligation to join in if parents or children didn’t wish to.

We were delighted with the number of brilliant entries however!

Thank you to all our parents, without whose support this would never have been possible. You were all super in helping your children with the sports challenge set for their year group and also by filming their efforts with your smart phones.

You can see the results in the video above (thank you to Mr Douch for being such a good sport!) and the lucky winners of the ‘virtual rosettes’.

Every child and parent deserves a ‘virtual medal’ however - thank you for all taking part!
